A policeman used a rope to descend the facade of a skyscraper in the American city of New York to prevent a man accused of financial fraud from jumping from a window on the 31st floor, the Associated Press reported, cited by BTA.

The daring arrest was made after federal agents went to arrest the man at his Manhattan apartment yesterday morning.

He did not surrender, however, but instead broke one of the windows, sat on a ledge and threatened to jump, authorities said.

The man dangled one leg from the window as officers tried to convince him to surrender.

The tense situation lasted eight hours, and eventually a law enforcement officer descended from the upper floor with a rope to the man's apartment.

Video footage of the incident showed the officer kicking the man into the apartment, where he was caught by other law enforcement officers.

The man was then taken to hospital for examination.
