The taxi drivers in Athens started a twenty-four hour strike today with the decision of the Taxi Drivers Union, ANA-MPA agency reported, quoted by BTA.

Taxis have stopped running since 06:00 AM and will not run until 06:00 AM on Friday.

The strike march started at 11:00 a.m. on Kavalas Blvd., Athens, and will continue to the Ministry of Transport.

The union accuses the government of indifference to the sector's problems and claims that it is blatantly ignoring their demands.

A statement from the taxi drivers stressed "that the government's willful indifference to the slow death of taxis is a reflection of the neoliberal policies that the government has imposed on all small and medium-sized businesses".

In February, the Attica Taxi Drivers Union called an emergency meeting to discuss further strike action.

Some of their main demands are an increase in the minimum fare, an extension of the deadline for the zero-emissions requirement for new taxis, as well as measures to combat "unfair competition" from ride-sharing platforms.
