[Instant News/Comprehensive Report] A senior US State Department official pointed out on the 22nd that the US will implement stronger economic sanctions against individuals and companies in Myanmar in the near future.

According to Reuters, Derek Chollet, an adviser to the U.S. State Department, said in an interview in Jakarta, the Indonesian capital, that the new sanctions plan would put the Burmese military government in a difficult position and cut off its financial sources for arms purchases.

Jolay stressed that Myanmar has become a "failed state" in the heart of Southeast Asia.

"We are trying to put pressure on the Burmese junta to make it difficult for them to generate revenue. This will deprive the war machine of fuel," Cholai said.

The Myanmar military overthrew the country's democratically elected government in 2021. Since then, it has continued to brutally suppress dissidents, plunging Myanmar into a humanitarian crisis. So far, the United States has imposed sanctions on 80 individuals and more than 30 companies in Myanmar.

Jolay believes the best way to root out the conflict in Myanmar is to demand that Russia stop supplying arms to the country's military junta.

"If the junta is unable to import weapons, that is, if Russia stops supplying weapons to Myanmar, the situation will change a lot," Cholai said.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) currently only prohibits military leaders from attending high-level meetings, but opposes sanctions imposed by Europe and the United States and refuses to expel Myanmar from the regional organization.
