Vice President Dr. Philip Mpango has asked the Ministry of Construction and Transport and the country's road agency (TANROADS) to supervise the contractors who are building the tarmac level road from Kabingo, Kasulu to Manyovu in Kigoma region with a length of 260 kilometers to ensure it is completed on time.

Dr. Mpango said this while speaking to the Parliamentary Committee on Capital and Public Investment which was visiting the projects under the committee in Kigoma region and said that the road is a savior for the people of that region.

He said that the people of Kigoma region have great faith in President Samia for the implementation of various projects, so that faith must be shown in action for the projects being implemented to be completed on time and to raise the economy of the people of the region.

He said that the Kabingo, Kasulu to Manyovu road is the economic support of the people of Kigoma region as their main economic activity in selling and buying takes place in Mwanza and Kahama regions in Shinyanga region so the road becomes an important economic link in transporting goods and businessmen of that region and other regions.

At the same time, he said that the road is also an important link for the transportation of goods and passengers to various regions of the country of Burundi and that the road is part of regional projects for East African countries of which Burundi is a member.

"Director General TANROAS I would like to see this project end on time, let the contractors perform their duties according to the contract and the Deputy Secretary General Ministry of Construction, look at the issue of payment to the contractors if there are any challenges, bring them early so we can work on them," said the Vice President.

The chairman of the Parliament's standing committee on investment and capital, Jerry Slaa, told the Vice President that they have faith in President Samia Suluhu Hassan for the great work of implementing developmental projects in the country.

Slaa said that in the Kigoma region, the committee has visited the Bangwe power station in Kigoma, Kigoma Port and the paved roads and was satisfied with the great work that has been done on the projects.

Earlier, the Director General of the Road Agency in the country, Rogartus Mativila said that a total of 260.6 kilometers of asphalt will be built with a value of 325 billion shillings and four contractors are implementing the project in different parts.

Mativila said the construction of the road will connect the Kigoma region with the regions of Kagera, Geita, Shinyanga and Mwanza and the neighboring country of Burundi and that there are social projects including a new primary school, markets, health centers and bus stands will be built as part of the project. that.

For his part, the Deputy Minister of Construction and Transport, Ludovick Nduhiye said that so far the implementation of the project has reached 59 percent and asphalt roads with a length of 68 kilometers have been completed.

He said that the project will involve the construction of 260.6 kilometers of tarmac roads, one big bridge, eight normal bridges, 103 big bridges and 306 small bridges.

So far, 15 billion shillings have been paid in compensation to the people, where as of February this year, all contractors have been paid 171 billion shillings and consulting engineers have been paid 8.4 billion shillings.
