[Reporter Chen Jianzhi/Taichung Report] Taiwan has been accused of being a "pedestrian hell". There have also been many traffic accidents in Taichung where pedestrians were injured while walking on crosswalks. From March 26th to 26th, the two-week "Pedestrian Justice Law Enforcement Project" was launched to strengthen the ban on key projects such as car and motorcycle drivers not temporarily giving priority to pedestrians at intersections. 150 violations were banned in one week. It is hoped that through strong Law enforcement, let courtesy to pedestrians become a habit.

Wufeng Branch stated that from March 13th to 26th, the "Pedestrian Justice Law Enforcement Project" will be implemented every day from 4:00 p.m. At the intersection of Renhua Road and Chenggong 2nd Road, as well as at the intersection of Zhongzheng Road and Chenggong Road in Wufeng District, fixed-point guards and inspections were strengthened for key projects such as motor vehicle drivers not temporarily giving priority to pedestrians, and cameras were set up to collect evidence throughout the process.

The Wufeng branch said that people should slow down when driving through the intersection, and pay attention to the situation in front of the vehicle at all times. If there are pedestrians passing the intersection, they should stop and give priority to pedestrians. The distance from the 3 sleeper grains is less than 3 meters. Be sure to Stop to let pedestrians cross the road first. If there is any violation, it will be reported according to Article 44, Item 2 or Article 48, Item 2 of the Road Traffic Management Penalty Regulations, and a fine of NT$1,200 to NT$3,600 will be imposed. According to statistics, March 13 By the 19th, a total of 150 violations of not giving way to pedestrians have been banned.

In addition, pedestrians should also walk across the crossing according to the regulations, and pass the intersection as quickly as possible. Pay attention to the traffic conditions at the intersection, do not use mobile phones, and do not walk across the lane at will.

In case of violation, a fine of NT$500 will be imposed in accordance with Article 78 of the Road Traffic Management Penalty Regulations.

The Wufeng Sub-bureau stated that the law enforcement on the spot by the police also found that there were pedestrian crossing intersections at the intersection of Linsen Road and Side Road in Wufeng District, the intersection of Renhua Road and Chenggong 2nd Road in Dali District, and the intersection of Zhongxing Road and Xinren Road. The right-of-way unit has discussed adding pedestrian-only signs and green pedestrian crossings (green zebras), etc., to improve the pedestrian road environment through engineering means.

Chen Xianglin, director of the Wufeng Branch, said that issuing fines is just a means, and the purpose is to remind all passers-by to slow down and look around from left to right when driving through intersections and pedestrian crossings through strong law enforcement and expanded publicity. Suspend priority for pedestrians, because everyone and their favorite family members and friends will also switch to pedestrian status when they are not driving. We should treat it with empathy and internalize courtesy to pedestrians as a habit and daily life.
