North Korea fired an undisclosed number of cruise missiles this morning from its east coast, Reuters reported, citing a statement by South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The agency noted that this is the latest in a series of weapons tests at a time when the South Korean and US armed forces are conducting joint military exercises.

The cruise missiles were fired at around 10:15 a.m. from North Korea's South Hamgyeon province, the South Korean military command said in a statement.

It is not yet clear how many rockets were fired and what they were.

The South Korean military is on high alert and South Korean and US intelligence agencies are analyzing data on the missiles, the statement said.

South Korea's military command added that the 11-day joint military exercises with US allies will conclude successfully as planned in a stable combined defense posture.
