The city of Avdiyivka in Donetsk region is under heavy fire from Russian artillery.

This was stated by the head of the local military administration Vitaliy Barbash to the CNN channel.

"Some Ukrainian officials said that this city could become the second Bakhmut," the article says.

According to Barabash, Russian ground attacks in the area have intensified in recent weeks, and "the situation is really changing."

"There are more massive rocket attacks on the city. The number of assaults around the city is also multiplying," said Barabash.

According to the head of the administration, the defense line around the city was shelled all night.

There was heavy shelling, small arms battles were fought in all directions, both from the south and from the north.

Barabash noted that the evacuation of people continues, but the section of the road on which people are being evacuated is controlled by Russian troops, who "immediately open fire."

Over the past three weeks, 180 people left the city, and according to Ukrainian officials, about 2,000 people remained in Avdiivka.

Among them, according to Barabash, are six children.

One child was evacuated on Tuesday, and authorities plan to evacuate another today.

According to the information of the General Staff, the fiercest battles continue for Bakhmut and in the Avdiyiv direction.

Oleksiy Dmytrashkivskyi, the spokesman of the Defense Forces of the Tavria region, also said that Avdiyivka could soon become the "new Bakhmut".

British intelligence is of the same opinion.

Roman Svitan, a military expert, pilot-instructor and reserve colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on the other hand, believes that "the situation in Bakhmut and Avdiivka are different."
