President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi has said that the government's mission is to ensure that the Old City remains as it was 200 years ago and not to change it.

Dr. Mwinyi said this in a short opening ceremony of the new Tembo Hotel Building, which was held at the Tembo House Hotel, Shangani today March 22, 2023 in the West Urban Region.

He said there are those who are trying to mislead that the government aims to change the Old City by dividing it and privatizing it and he explained that the aim is to give people who have the ability to build the buildings, take care of them so that they can last for the next 200 years citing as an example the current Tembo Hotel building which was the American Embassy in 1831 and The building inaugurated today for renovation was Skuli in 1944.

In addition, President Dr. Mwinyi has invited investors to come and cooperate with the Government to restore the status of the Old Town and build it while giving three months to those who have been given various Buildings to repair and develop them. If they fail, the Government will take them over. modern electricity, Internet service, road construction in the Old City to become an attraction for tourism.

He has thanked the King of Oman Sultan Haitham Bin Tariq M Said and his Government for the support of 21 Million US Dollars for the construction of the Beit-al-Ajaib Building and returning it to its status and the contractor has been found and the construction will start soon.
