Daylight saving time starts at 03:00 on March 26. Then the clocks are moved forward one hour, reports the Bulgarian Institute of Metrology.
Since 1997, summer time in Bulgaria is introduced at 03:00 on the last Sunday of March, and the return to astronomical time takes place at 04:00 on the last Sunday of October.
This is shown by the data of the "Reference" department of BTA.
Most countries in the European Union (EU) adopted daylight saving time in the 1970s.
Between 1980 and 1984, a series of directives were passed that specified that daylight saving time began on the last Sunday in March and ended on the last Sunday in October.
The reason is that each country in the EU had different dates when they introduced it.
The current rules in the EU were introduced in implementation of a directive of the European Parliament (EP) and the Council of the EU from 2001, which regulates summer time in the Union.
On September 12, 2018, the European Commission (EC) published a legislative proposal to end the time change in the EU.
According to a Commission survey conducted between 4 July and 16 August 2018 and involving 4.6 million people in the Member States, 84 percent of respondents said they wanted to end the time change because of the many negative effects on the health and behavior of people, as a result of the disruption of their biological rhythm.
On March 26, 2019, the European Parliament adopted a decision according to which member states must inform the European Commission by October 31, 2020, which time they will choose, and by April 1, 2021, to adopt and publish a change in their national legislation that to reflect the new time regulation.
The current Time Directive of 2001 is repealed from 1 April 2021, due to the entry into force of the new regulation.
However, in order for the EP's decision to become a fact, the Council of the EU must make a decision, which has not yet happened.
Globally, Daylight Saving Time is not practiced in 169 countries.
