Cai Mingyan said that the concept of equidistance is more like an academic or news term, because in terms of policy, equidistance depends on issues and different situations, and is used to manage relations with the United States and China. The current geopolitical situation is more complicated In the process, how to find the source of threats, how to expand the support of international alliances, and how to grasp the mainstream values of the international community are three factors that must be taken into consideration when planning the overall grand strategy.

As for whether the current international situation is a new type of cold war, Cai Mingyan said that at present, we can see that the strategic competition between the United States and China is heating up, and there is also a trend of group confrontation. It can be seen that the United States and regional countries have strengthened cooperation, security-oriented, and economically oriented multilateralism. The establishment of the mechanism hopes to restrict China's behavior in the security part, cooperate in the aspect of economic security, and make the alliance's cooperation in the supply chain more resilient.
