The Minister of Trade and Industry of Egypt, Ahmed Samir, announced a three-month ban on the export of all types of sugar, reports BTA.

Exceptions are possible if quantities in excess of those required for the local market are available. 

The Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade will calculate the excess quantities and export them will require a permit, according to a decree published in the Arab Republic's state gazette. 

This year, Egypt increased the area planted to sugar beet by more than 10,000 acres.

Areas with sugar beet are increasing, with the goal of sugar production from this crop reaching 1.8 million tons. 

Drop in wholesale food prices for the first time in two months

Last week, the Ministry of Supply and Domestic Trade announced an increase in purchase prices for the domestic sugar beet crop to stimulate producers.

According to the department, strategic reserves of sugar are sufficient for between 3 and 5 months.
