Earthquake: At least 11 people were killed while more than 150 were injured after a powerful earthquake of 6.8 magnitude hit parts of Pakistan on Tuesday night.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the epicenter of the earthquake was the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, while its depth was 180 km. 

According to initial reports, tremors were felt in various cities including Islamabad, Peshawar, Charsadda, Lahore and Rawalpindi.

Local media reported that strong tremors were also felt in Gujranwala, Gujarat, Sialkot, Kot Momin, Madh Ranjha, Chakwal, Kohat and Gilgit-Baltistan areas.

TV footage showed that people came out on the streets in panic. 

The Express Tribune newspaper reported that at the time of the earthquake, stampedes were reported in the markets of Rawalpindi. 

Two people were killed and six injured in roof, wall and house collapse incidents, while eight houses in the province were partially destroyed, Dawn reported, in an interim report by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Disaster Management Authority. have been damaged.

However, Swat District Police Officer Shafiullah Gandapur told Dawn.com that two people were killed and 150 injured in the district.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

According to Pakistan's official Associated Press, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has asked disaster management officials to be alert to handle any situation.

According to the International Seismological Center, apart from Pakistan, earthquake tremors were also felt in India, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, China and Kyrgyzstan.

In January this year, there was a 6.3 magnitude earthquake in Islamabad.
