March 22, 2023 - Wednesday.

392nd day of the war in Ukraine.

What a church holiday tomorrow, March 22

March 22 in the church calendar is

the day of commemoration of the Forty Martyrs of Sebastien (Forty Saints)

.

They were soldiers of the Roman XII legion who died near the city of Sevastia (now Sivas, Turkey) in 320 because they refused to renounce the Christian faith.

All forty warriors were originally from Cappadocia and were part of the so-called Lightning Legion.

The military leader Agricola wanted them to sacrifice to the pagan gods, but they refused.

After that, they were undressed and put in the lake, which was covered with ice.

On the shore, a bathhouse was heated for those who want to retreat and save their lives.

One of the soldiers could not stand it in the morning and ran to the bathhouse, but died there.

However, forty martyrs still remained, because the watchman Aglai saw a vision with an angel, turned to Christ, took off his clothes and went into the lake alone.

Torturers who came later saw that the soldiers not only did not freeze, but also warmed up.

Therefore, their legs were broken with hammers, thrown into the fire, and later the charred bones were thrown into the river.

Secretly, Christians still managed to save part of the holy relics.

On March 22, Ukraine and the world celebrate

World Water Day (World Water Day)

.

The holiday was established by the United Nations to unite international efforts in the fight against the water crisis and encourage people to use water more efficiently.

An interesting monument was left by the ancient Incas near the city of Cusco (Peru).

There, archaeologists discovered a system of aqueducts between waterfalls that originate in thermal springs on the slopes of the mountains.

Filtering, heating and other methods of water purification are mentioned in ancient Indian chronicles.

The first connection between water quality and human health was seen by the doctor Alcmaeon, who lived in Ancient Greece.

Hippocrates was of the same opinion.

During the Middle Ages, water culture was almost forgotten.

The townspeople threw all their waste into the streams, which carried them to the big rivers.

That is why the water pumps carried heavily polluted water back.

Because of this, various infections occurred.

In the 17th and 18th centuries, filtration was widely used as a means of obtaining clean drinking water.

For this, a system of sand filters was used, through which the liquid passed.

The first municipal water treatment plant appeared in the Scottish city of Paisley in 1804.

Also, March 22

is Baltic Sea Day

.

The holiday is popular in Latvia, Germany, Estonia and other Baltic countries.

It was started back in 1986, and the date was chosen in honor of the signing of the Helsinki Convention (1974), which proclaimed the protection of the marine environment.

The Baltic Sea appeared about 15,000 years ago, its greatest depth is 470 meters, and the average depth is 51 meters.

And on March 22, they celebrate

Taxi Driver's Day

.

The date of the celebration was chosen in honor of the start of the operation of cabs (carriage for transporting passengers with a counter) in London in 1907.

It is known that since the time of the Roman Empire there were chariots on which you could ride.

The fare was determined by the number of revolutions of the wheel.

The work of a taxi driver is very responsible, because you need to navigate the city well, be a professional driver and quickly find a common language with different people.

March 22

is International Seal Day

.

It was launched to draw people's attention to the importance of seals in maintaining the balance of marine ecosystems.

It was celebrated for the first time in 1982.

Seals are an important component of marine ecosystems, playing a crucial role in maintaining the food chain and controlling other species.
