The Verkhovna Rada adopted the law on the conditions of admission to Ukrainian citizenship.

From now on, those wishing to obtain a Ukrainian passport will be forced to pass exams on the basics of the Constitution of Ukraine, the history of Ukraine and the level of proficiency in the state language.

People's deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak reports this.

 Bill No. 7606 in the second reading was supported by 281 people's deputies.

"Parliament generally supported the introduction of exams on the basics of the Constitution of Ukraine, the history of Ukraine and the level of mastery of the state language as a condition for acceptance into citizenship," Zheleznyak noted.

The explanatory note states that foreigners must pass an exam to obtain citizenship.

Foreigners who have already received a Ukrainian passport, in particular those who "have outstanding merits for Ukraine, whose acceptance into Ukrainian citizenship is of state interest for Ukraine, who are undergoing military service under a contract in the Armed Forces in accordance with the procedure established by the legislation of Ukraine, have the opportunity for 2 years to have pass the exam.

Earlier it was reported that the Council granted legal status to foreigners who fight in the units of the National Guard.
