Deputies of the Kyiv Regional Council at the meeting on March 21 approved the new date of establishment of Kyiv Oblast as an administrative-territorial unit.

 This was reported by the press service of the regional council.

Deputies supported the project of the decision "On determining the date of establishment of Kyiv Region as an administrative-territorial unit" and voted to consider the middle of the 8th century as the time of establishment, namely the year 842.

According to the Deputy Head of the Kyiv Regional Council Tetyana Semenova, who initiated the date change, Ukrainians have a history with thousand-year roots.

"This is not the first year I have raised this issue. Today, it has come before all of us more acutely than ever. The date of establishment of Kyiv region, signed by dictator Stalin during the years when Ukrainians were exterminated by the Holodomor, must be changed once and for all," said the deputy.

Regional deputies also appealed to the Kyiv Regional Military Administration and the Cabinet of Ministers to change the official date of the celebration of the creation of Kyiv Region as an administrative-territorial unit.

It is proposed to celebrate this event every year on the last Sunday of September.
