The gap between Greece's ruling New Democracy party and SYRIZA has narrowed to 3.6 percent, according to a survey conducted by Alco for Greece's Alpha TV between March 13 and 17, Kathimerini reports.

Specifically, New Democracy leads in terms of voter intentions with 28.4%, followed by the left-wing opposition SYRIZA with 24.8% and the center-left PASOK in third place with 9.3%.

They beat the former Greek minister Yannis Varoufakis

They are ahead of the communists from the KKE (6%), the nationalist party "Greek Solution" (3.8%), the radical left MeRA25 (3.4%) of Yanis Varoufakis and the "Greeks" (3.4%), and 13.8 % have not decided how they will vote.

Before the serious train disaster that claimed the lives of 57 people, the conservative "New Democracy" had a comfortable lead over SYRIZA.

However, the poor state of the country's rail transport and the lack of critical safety systems that came to light after the tragic incident drove students and transport workers into the streets, and trains were halted until the end of March.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis took political responsibility for the crash and the transport minister resigned, but this did not reassure people and apparently changed electoral attitudes.
