Maduro accepted the resignation of the oil minister amid the PDVSA corruption investigation

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro accepted the resignation of Oil Minister Tarek al-Aisami.

APA informs that this was reported by TASS.

He promised to root out corruption in the state oil and gas company PDVSA (Petróleos de Venezuela, Sociedad Anonima).

Tarek al-Aissami announced on social networks that he resigned from his position and that he is ready to provide all the information he has and help investigate these criminal and mafia groups.

Maduro has not yet appointed a new oil minister.

The Venezuelan leader said that influential businessmen, top managers, high-ranking civil servants and a deputy were detained at the first stage of the investigation into the corruption case in the oil and gas company.

"We will completely rid PDVSA of these schemes, brutalities, people who rob the people," Maduro said.

Venezuela's Attorney General's Office announced on Sunday the launch of an anti-corruption investigation following the arrest of several civil servants.
