In Croatia, 95 percent of forests are natural, and the country annually cuts down fewer trees than it grows, thus maintaining the natural balance, forest management company Hrvatske Šume announced on the occasion of the International Day of Forests. March 21, Hina agency reported.

In Croatia, forests cover 49.3 percent of the country's area, of which 76 percent are owned by the state and 24 percent are in the hands of private owners.

The main characteristic of Croatian forests is that they are 95 percent natural, unlike many forests in Europe and the world.

Croatian forests are managed sustainably, with wood resources being used to such an extent as to ensure their preservation.

The most common tree species in Croatia are oak, beech, hornbeam, fir, spruce, stone oak and pine.
