The Presidents of Turkey and Israel, Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Yitzhak Herzog, spoke by phone, the Communications Directorate of the Turkish Presidency announced today, BTA reported.

During the phone conversation last night, bilateral relations were discussed.

The Israeli head of state congratulated the Turkish president on the upcoming holy month of Ramadan for Muslims.

Erdogan thanked Herzog for the solidarity and support provided by Israel following the devastating earthquakes in Turkey in February.

The Turkish leader has expressed his determination to strengthen relations between Turkey and Israel.

Erdogan submitted his candidacy for the presidency in the upcoming elections

After more than a decade of diplomatic rift, Israel and Turkey last year took steps toward ushering in a new era in relations.

Both countries reappointed ambassadors.

Turkey and Israel had seriously soured their relationship despite their strong trade ties.
