A fragment of a spiral staircase made at the end of the 19th century for the Eiffel Tower will be offered for auction by the French auction house "Aguit", TASS reported, citing the seller's website.

The bidding is scheduled for March 23, BTA reported.

According to the description, the lot includes "32 cast iron elements painted in bottle green", specifically six steps, as well as parts and supports for them.

Until now, they have been stored in the Paris apartment of interior designer and decorator Jacques Garcia.

The initial estimate of the lot is between 4,000 to 6,000 euros.

Based on the results of other auctions, predictions are that a much higher price will be reached.

The last time, a 3-meter fragment of a spiral staircase, located between the second and third floors of the Eiffel Tower, was sold at auction for 274.5 thousand euros, with an estimated initial estimate of 30-40 thousand euros.

Dismantled in 1983, the spiral staircase was cut into 24 pieces ranging in height from two to nine meters for the installation of lifts.

In the same year, 20 of them were sold at auction.

Today, they are part of the most prestigious collections around the world, with some of them being offered for sale from time to time.

The achieved price of 274.5 thousand euros is well below the record for such a lot, notes TASS.

It is clear from the Arcurial website that in November 2016, another piece of the staircase, 2.6 meters high, was sold for a record 523.8 thousand euros, with the original price set at 40-50 thousand euros.

One of the main symbols of Paris - the Eiffel Tower, was erected for the World Exhibition in 1889, at which France sought to show its technical achievements.

It is one of the most recognizable landmarks of the French capital.

It is visited by about 7 million tourists every year.
