The Central Meteorological Bureau pointed out that an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter scale occurred at 9:45 this morning. The epicenter was located 49.5 kilometers southwest of Hualien County Government, with a depth of only 7.2 kilometers.

The largest earthquake in Hualien was magnitude 4, and Nantou and Taitung were magnitude 3.
