The transition to summer time takes place every year on the last Sunday of March.

This year, Ukrainians will move the hands of the clock forward one hour on the night of March 26.

The transition to winter and summer time still occurs in accordance with Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 509 of May 13, 1996.

Every year, on the last Sunday of March at 3 o'clock, the hand of the clock is moved 1 hour forward, and on the last Sunday of October at 4 o'clock - 1 hour back.

Similar changes take place annually in the European Union in accordance with Directive 2000/84/EC of the European Parliament and the Council of January 19, 2001 on the transition to summer time.

To date, eight countries of the community have synchronized time with Ukrainian time.

On Sunday night, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and Cyprus moved their clocks to the "Greenwich +3" zone.

Most of them are expected to remain in the summer zone on a permanent basis after the transfer is cancelled.

The first country in Europe to use the idea of daylight saving time to conserve coal during wartime was Germany (from 1916) and its allies in World War I.

After that, similar decisions were made at different times in many countries of the world.
