The United Kisan Morcha (SKM) said on Sunday that lakhs of farmers from across the country have traveled to the national capital to participate in the 'Kisan Mahapanchayat' to be held on March 20 at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan.

The SKM, a joint platform of various farmer organizations, had told last month that the 'Kisan Mahapanchayat' has been called to press for the legal guarantee of the minimum support price (MSP) of agricultural products.

SKM said in a statement that lakhs of farmers from different states and union territories are coming to participate in the 'Kisan Mahapanchayat' to be held in Delhi on March 20.

In a press conference, SKM leader Darshan Pal said that the central government should fulfill the assurance given to us in writing on 9 December 2021 and also take steps to remove the growing crisis facing the farmers.

Significantly, SKM had led the farmer's movement for almost a year against the three agricultural laws that have now been withdrawn.

SKM withdrew its agitation in December 2021 after getting assurance from the government to withdraw the lawsuits filed against the farmers during the protest and considering their pending demands including guarantee of MSP.

SKM demanded the Center to dissolve the committee constituted on MSP and alleged that it was contrary to the demand of the farmers.

The farmers have demanded pension, loan waiver, compensation to the farmers killed during the farmer's movement and withdrawal of the electricity bill.

SKM said in a statement that the Electricity Amendment Bill-2022 sent to the Joint Parliamentary Committee should be withdrawn.

The Center had assured in writing that it would re-introduce the Bill in Parliament after discussion with the SKM, but despite this it introduced the Bill.

SKM reiterated its demand that electricity for agriculture should be given free of cost and no charges should be taken from rural households for 300 units of electricity per month.
