On March 26, 2023, at 03:00 local time, daylight saving time is introduced.

Then the clocks are moved forward by 1 hour, reports the Bulgarian Institute of Metrology.

Daylight saving time is a system introduced to save on lighting costs by increasing the use of daylight.

With it, the official time is usually moved one hour ahead of the astronomical time, remaining so for the spring and summer months.

This is aimed at ensuring a better match between daylight hours and active hours for work and school.

This is when we turn the hands back an hour

In the EU, the transition to summer time is regulated by Directive 2000/84/EG, which defines the beginning and end of the period for all EU countries.

This directive is reviewed and extended every five years.

It is observed by other European countries that are not part of the EU.

The idea of daylight savings time was first put into practice by the German government during World War I in the period 30 April to 1 October 1916. Soon after, Britain followed suit, initially introducing daylight saving time from 21 May to 1 October 1916

Daylight saving time was introduced in Bulgaria on April 1, 1979.
