On March 20, 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, participated in the "Together for the People of Turkey and Syria" International Donors Conference held in Brussels, Belgium.

The conference was held with the participation of European Union (EU) members, neighboring and partner countries, "Big Twenty" (G20), Gulf Cooperation Council countries, United Nations (UN), other international organizations, including international and European financial institutions. It was organized in order to support the removal of the consequences of the earthquakes that occurred in Syria.

Within the framework of the conference, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, the Prime Minister of Sweden Ulf Kristerson as the country chairing the EU Council, and the President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent fire brigades, medical staff, volunteers, as well as humanitarian aid.

It was emphasized that Azerbaijan has sent 940 rescuers, medical personnel and volunteer teams to the region, more than 5300 tons of humanitarian cargo has been sent to the region, and more than 45 million US dollars have been provided through relevant organizations working in the earthquake region of Turkey.

It was brought to attention that Azerbaijan will be next to brother Turkey, as always, and in this regard, our country will continue to provide result-oriented material and technical support in post-earthquake reconstruction and construction works.

It was announced that the Republic of Azerbaijan will implement the construction of residential buildings, social facilities and an educational center in the amount of 100 million US dollars as part of the contribution to the reconstruction work in the region.

At the end of the conference, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, who hosted the event, and the Prime Minister of Sweden, Ulf Kristersson, as the country chairing the EU Council, made a final statement. A preliminary assessment of post-disaster needs was presented.

After the speech of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, the speeches of the Conference participants were heard within the session of pledges of aid.

Speaking at the conference, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said that the organization of the conference aimed at mobilizing the efforts of the international community to eliminate the consequences of the terrible disaster is commendable.

In this regard, solidarity was expressed with the brotherly Turkey, as well as with Syria, which faced great loss of life and destruction as a result of the devastating earthquakes that occurred in Azerbaijan.
