India summoned the senior-most British diplomat in Delhi on Sunday night

after a video surfaced of

pro-Khalistan

separatist elements attempting to bring down the Indian flag at the Indian High Commission in London during a protest over the "absence of security". Asked for clarification.

In a strong statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said that India has seen the indifference of the UK government to the security of Indian diplomatic premises and personnel in the UK, which is unacceptable.

Sources said British Deputy High Commissioner Christina Scott was summoned to the Ministry of External Affairs in view of the incident as High Commissioner Alex Ellis is out of Delhi.

"Senior UK diplomat in New Delhi was summoned late this evening to convey India's strong protest against the action by separatist and extremist elements against the Indian High Commission in London," the Foreign Office said.

Lawyer expressed doubts in the High Court

"An explanation was sought from the UK for the absence of security arrangements that allowed these elements to enter the High Commission premises," the ministry said.

The Foreign Office said the diplomat was reminded of the UK government's basic obligations under the Vienna Convention.

The Ministry of External Affairs said, "India has seen the indifference of the UK government to the security of Indian diplomatic premises and personnel in the UK, which is unacceptable."

The ministry sought immediate steps to identify, arrest and prosecute those involved in the incident.

The Foreign Office said, "It is expected that the UK Government will take immediate steps to identify, arrest and prosecute everyone involved in today's incident and will take strong measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents."

Ellis said in a tweet, “I condemn today's despicable acts against the Indian High Commission Complex in London and the people there.

This is completely unacceptable.

Pictures of broken windows and people climbing on the 'India House' building have surfaced on social media.

Video from the scene shows an Indian official grabbing a flag from a protester from a first-floor window of the High Commission, while the protester is seen waving a Khalistan flag.

London Police 'Scotland Yard' said that it has received information about an incident in the area but has not yet issued an official statement.
