Such is human nature, philosophers wisely conclude on the subject of why man has been so strongly tempted from ancient times to the present day to be enslaved to the benefits of property. The topic is particularly relevant even today, when the world is drowning in inflation of various sizes, and in our country - in especially large ones, because, as economists say, in our country this phenomenon rests on the specula, caused by unprecedented greed...
Almost a year after staging "Misunderstood Civilization", the popular Bulgarian actor and director Nikolay Urumov made a stage version and production of "The Millionaire", a play by the great Bulgarian writer Yordan Yovkov.
The performance will be in the State Satirical Theater "Aleko Konstantinov", which premieres on 23.03.2023 at 7:30 p.m.
"The Millionaire" is a comedy about the base passions under the control of Money!
How far can human dignity and morality be degraded, blinded by the devastating power of money?!
Which will prevail - the metal ring of millions or the crystal ring of pure love, the eternal pursuit of power and money or the bright rush of feelings?!
How people, possessed by the magic of wealth, can turn into ridiculous, untenable caricatures...,” commented director Nikolay Urumov.
The viewers - lovers of Bulgarian theater and cinema art, probably still remember the television play based on Yovkov's work from 1988 by the director Pavel Pavlov.
Famous actors such as Andrey Chaprazov, Kiril Kavadarkov, Domna Ganeva, Yuri Angelov, Maria Kavardzhikova and others took part in it.
Over the years, the play was staged in many other Bulgarian theaters, due to its eternal relevance.
Not long ago, the director Nikolay Urumov told me in an interview why he chooses to stage authors from the golden Bulgarian treasury, what they captivate him with:
With its topicality.
I wish, of course, that it wasn't so modern anymore, but...well.
Dobri Voynikov has correctly sensed the folk psychology of Bulgarians, which, despite the years, does not change.
And today we continue to be captivated by the superficial, by the external glitter and high-flown words and promises
to all Margaridians who during a certain period of time come and promise us a bright future and to lead us to Europe.
But again and again we remain lied to, because the goals of these people turn out to be extremely mercantile."
In "The Millionaire" by Nikolay Urumov, the scenography and costumes are the work of Petya Boyukova, the music is by Kalin Nikolov, the choreographer is Tatyana Yaneva.
The roles are played by: Maslarski - Konstantin Ikonomov, Mrs. Maslarska - Silvia Lulcheva, Bubev - Dimitar Banenkin, Kokichkov - Ivaylo Kaloyanchev, Fergov - Teodor Elmazov, Mrs. Fergova - Dobrina Getsova, etc., and the play's playwright is Bogdana Kosturkova.
Don't miss the interesting reading of Yordan Yovkov's satire classic, which is still relevant today!
In conclusion, I will recall what was written by another of our classics and master of the pen - Petko Slaveykov and his
"Song of my money":
…
Rejoice, money
almighty queen!
Because of you, money
for your face
what works!
Kingdoms and thrones
for your sake shavat
who prays to you
you sacrifice cars.
God forbid
again ta seki glori:
blessed, happy,
the whole world respects you!
You are small in battle,
but you are most needed;
you are gone, voiceless
but also so beautiful;
you are weak, grinning,
but still omnipotent!
you rock the universe
you're flipping
you raise the earth
and you reach heaven.
You have no gift
you're taking the stars off again.
Rejoice, money
almighty queen!
You patricians proclaim,
you pops illuminate
you make fools wise
you also rejuvenate old men,
you also make the ugly beautiful
you are the one who rules the world!
And what don't you do?
Births for a hoe
you put it, Bishop
you do it too patricka.
Unworthy through you
high positions obsessed.
Sisko, things are easy with you
and that's why she's looking for...
