Mayor of Washington Muriel Bowser officially announced March 25, 2023 as the Freedom Day of Belarus. Franak Vyachorka, Svetlana Tsikhanovskaya's adviser, announced this on Twitter.
In the statement of the mayor of Washington, it is emphasized that the celebration of Freedom Day "contributes to the promotion and preservation of the rich history, language and culture of Belarusians in Washington, D.C., and throughout the Belarusian diaspora", and knowledge of Belarusian traditions and customs "strengthens the social structure of our wider community, and make a significant contribution to the vitality and social diversity of the District of Columbia."
"Supporting independence, democracy and freedom in Belarus is consistent with our values of protecting human rights, democratic self-government and preserving the right to self-determination," Bowser emphasizes.
For the second year in a row, the mayor of Washington has declared March 25 the Freedom Day of Belarus, the first time Freedom Day was celebrated in Washington in 2022.
Democratic leader of Belarus Svetlana Tsikhanovskaya will pay a visit to the USA on March 21-28 and will take part in a rally in Washington dedicated to Freedom Day.
She called to celebrate March 25, the 105th anniversary of the declaration of independence of the Belarusian People's Republic, as the International Day of Solidarity with Belarus.
