A woman who survived a Russian attack on a crowded theater in Mariupol has compared dictator Vladimir Putin's overnight visit to the temporarily Russian-occupied city to "when a serial killer returns to the scene of a crime."

CNN writes about it.

The publication's journalist spoke with Maria Kutnyakova, who managed to escape from Mariupol to the territory controlled by Ukraine with her family.

Kutnyakova said Putin visited Mariupol at night "because they didn't want to shoot real footage of the destroyed city."

"They did not want to show that Mariupol is still a disaster.

There are many destroyed buildings.

That people live in a bad situation," Kutnyakova said.

"Russian propaganda showed this image of several buildings they built.

They want people to believe that Mariupol is a very good place now.

But this is not so," said Kutnyakova.

She told CNN that prices in Mariupol are "crazy," that the city has no medicine, no heating, and problems with communication, electricity, water and gas.

Kutnyakova said that all 15 of her relatives and several close friends who lived in Mariupol left the city.

She said her family has not been able to find her uncle since last spring and they fear he may have died.

It will be recalled that the bombing of the drama theater on March 16, 2022 was one of Russia's most daring attacks on civilians during its full-scale offensive.

Before the attack, the word "CHILDREN" was painted in giant Russian letters on the ground near the building.

About 1,300 people were hiding inside.

Russia has denied that its forces struck the theater, saying it was blown up by a Ukrainian army regiment.

Mariupol has been under the temporary control of Russia since May 2022.
