Vincent Magwenya, spokesman for South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, said: "As a government, we are mindful of our legal obligations. However, between now and the summit, we will remain engaged with all stakeholders. people to communicate."

While Putin's trip has not been officially confirmed, he is expected to attend the 15th BRICS summit, as he did in 2013.

South African President Ramaphosa's government has refrained from condemning Russia following Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, but Putin's visit will put South Africa in a difficult position after an arrest warrant was issued by the International Criminal Court.
