Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad began an official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Sunday, during which he will hold talks with the highest authorities of this Arabian Gulf nation.

This is the second visit of its kind by the Syrian president to the UAE since the outbreak of the war in 2011, the first being in March 2022.

According to a press release from the presidency, Al-Assad was received by his Emirati counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who accompanied him to the Al-Watan Palace where the reception ceremonies were held.

He added that the first lady Asmaa Al-Assad is accompanying the president and is scheduled to hold talks with Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, president of the General Union of Women and the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood.

It is the third visit that the Syrian president has made abroad in less than a month and was preceded by one to Russia and another to Oman.

The UAE was the first Gulf country to reopen its embassy in Syria at the end of 2018, also sending several batches of humanitarian aid to help the people weather the aftermath of the earthquakes.
