North Korea claims that in one day on March 17, about 800,000 of its citizens voluntarily joined or re-enlisted in the People's Army to fight against the United States.

This was reported by Reuters with reference to the official publications of the DPRK.

"The growing enthusiasm of young people to join the army is a demonstration of the young generation's unwavering will to ruthlessly destroy the war maniacs who are making last-ditch efforts to destroy our precious socialist country," North Korea's state media said in a statement.

The published photos show young men and women lined up and waiting in long lines to sign their signatures in unfurled magazines.

The day before, Pyongyang launched its largest and most powerful missile, the Hwasong-17, the second test of an intercontinental ballistic missile this year.

State media described the launch as a response to "frenzied" joint US-South Korean military exercises that began this week.

On Saturday, March 18, a statement appeared in the North Korean state media that US-Korean exercises are "approaching an unforgivable red line."

North Korea has accused the US of trying to "provoke a nuclear war", saying that hundreds of thousands of people have joined the army in response.

It will be recalled that earlier the leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un, stated that the goal of his country is to have the most powerful nuclear force in the world.
