Turkish Minister of Energy Fatih Dönmez assured that natural gas supplies from the Black Sea Sakarya gas field to local consumers will begin by the end of April this year, BTA reports.

"We are following the plan, but there was some delay due to the earthquakes (in February). We plan to start supplying gas to consumers by the end of April. We will keep the promise we made to our citizens," Deonmez said.

Turkish authorities had previously said that gas from the Sakarya field would start flowing to consumers in March.

According to Ankara, gas reserves in the Black Sea are estimated at 540 billion cubic meters.

The Sakarya field is considered the largest, with reserves exceeding 400 billion cubic meters. At the initial stage, it is planned to produce about 10 million cubic meters of gas per day, or 3.4 to 4 billion cubic meters m per year.

By 2027-2028, daily gas production should reach 40 million cubic meters, and annual production will increase to 15 billion cubic meters.
