Professor

Joe Dituri of the   University of South Florida (

USA ) began his strange experiment in early March - he will spend 100 days at a depth of 30 feet to investigate how it will affect his body.

Lad bible writes about it.

An official press release from the University of South Florida confirmed that Dituri, who also has a doctorate in biomedical engineering and served in the US Navy, is conducting the experiment in hopes of finding new "ways to revive the marine environment."

In addition, the researcher also wants to "test a medical technology that could prevent many diseases in humans."

A US Navy astronaut will conduct the Neptune 100 mission in an underwater home by summer.

"Part of the work involves a psychologist and a psychiatrist monitoring the effects experienced by the professor while in an environment similar to a long-term space journey," the release states.

If Joe Dituri succeeds in completing the underwater experiment, he will set a new record for being underwater.

The current world record is 73 days from 2014, which was set by two professors from Tennessee.

It will also conduct experiments in biology and biomedical engineering underwater.

"This study will look at all the ways this trip affects my body, but my null hypothesis is that my health will improve because of the increased pressure," said Joe Dituri.
