Commentary of the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Maria Zakharova, on the situation surrounding the monument to the Soviet Army in Sofia.

On March 9 of this year

the legislative assembly of Sofia decided to dismantle the monument to the Soviet Army, which is located in the center of the Bulgarian capital.

The mayor of the city has been assigned to refer the regional governor of Sofia with a proposal to move the monument to another place.

To dance on the tyrant's grave!

This is inherent in a slave*

It is known that this wild initiative comes from the Euro-Atlanticists controlling the capital's representative body.

Its connection with the upcoming early parliamentary elections in Bulgaria is obvious, with the desire of individual groups claiming power to demonstrate their ability to carefully capture and immediately fulfill the expectations of their Western partners, which have a significant impact on the internal political processes in the country.

Now the monuments of those who liberated Bulgaria are turning into a political "bargaining coin".

The head of the current technical government of Bulgaria called for postponing the solution of such a delicate and controversial issue for the post-election period.

We do not observe the political will to say "hands off" from the monuments of those who made the lives of the current generations possible.

It is not about whether this life is comfortable, wealthy, prosperous - that is not the point.

It is about the very existence of generations.

Of course, they also paid attention to how ordinary Bulgarians stood on a "living chain" to protect the monument, turned by local politicians into another target for blasphemous mockery.

This patriotic impulse of the citizens of Bulgaria (not pro-Russian, but patriotic in relation to Bulgaria itself) clearly shows that, despite the furious anti-Russian propaganda, people cannot remain indifferent against the background of neo-Nazism rearing its head in Ukraine, they remember and honor the feat of the Russian soldier, brought freedom, peace and justice.

Yes, this is a collective image.

But when we say "Russian soldier", "Red Army", "people's feat", we really mean the feat of the Soviet people - multinational, multi-confessional, which is not divided from within and does not define anyone from the outside into right and wrong, into representatives of one or other religion or creed, of people of a certain skin color and complexion.

No, they just knew they had their own people to protect.

That there are deprived, humiliated, subjected to inhuman torture, condemned to destruction.

And there is an enemy that made the life of humanity in the middle of the twentieth century unbearable.

And he has to fight with him.

It is necessary to make it so that everyone whose life is in danger survives.

We are grateful to the citizens of Bulgaria who protected the monument.

We see in this dedication to tradition, close ties between the peoples of our countries.
