With an artistic gala in the Salón de los Grandes, located very close to the central Céspedes park in the city of Santiago de Cuba, the 60th edition of the "Pepe Sánchez" Trova Festival was inaugurated on Thursday night

,

appointment extended until next Monday, March 20.

Eduardo Sosa, president of the organizing committee, referred to the satisfaction of returning to the southeastern province, for an event that has celebrated this musical genre for six decades.

He thanked the government authorities and the Communist Party of Cuba, and the organizations and institutions that made the Festival possible.

The evening was conducive to recognizing outstanding troubadours and groups that with their constant actions contribute to the development of music on the Caribbean island.

Xiomara Vidal, Dúo Cohiba y el Así Son, Mauricio Figueral and Agusto Blanca, among others, enlivened the night with the interpretation of classics from the musical repertoire of the Antillean country.

colloquium are part of the agenda for this edition of the meeting.

The Casa de la Trova, the El Ingenio Multicultural Center, the Esteban Salas Conservatory, hospitals and prisons, the Universidad de Oriente and Medical Sciences become some of the locations for the activities.

The opening gala was attended by José Ramón Monteagudo, first secretary of the PCC in Santiago de Cuba;

Beatriz Johnson, its governor, and directors and representatives of culture in the territory.

Before, a commemorative plaque was unveiled for the declaration of the Cuban Trova as Cultural Heritage of the Nation on December 2, 2022, an event to which the contest is dedicated on this occasion, as well as the 70th anniversary of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes.

It will also honor the trajectory of artists and groups that cultivate traditional music and are worthy representatives of the national sound scene.

The "Pepe Sánchez" is organized by the "Miguel Matamoros" Music and Shows Company of Santiago de Cuba under the auspices of the Cuban Institute of Music and the Provincial Directorate of Culture.
