There are over 16,000 pedagogical specialists under the age of 35 in the education system as of this academic year.

This was announced by Polina Fetfova, head of the "Qualification and career development" department in the Directorate "Policies for strategic development, qualification and career development" in the Ministry of Education and Science (MES), the press center of the MES reported.

Polina Fetfova participated in a conference dedicated to the qualification of teachers, organized by the Union of Bulgarian Teachers.

She noted that in recent years there has been a positive trend towards an increase in young personnel in education.

We have growth in enrollment and we need to continue to develop teacher qualification policies.

Among the priority topics in this direction in the academic year 2022/2023 are project-based learning, teamwork and innovative work methods.

Digital competences are not just skills to use a digital device, but an opportunity for confidence in working in a digital environment and certification according to the European Digital Competence Framework.

We would like to continue this in the future, Fetfova said.

There are over 14,000 beginning teachers in the country

She also announced that as of the 2022/2023 school year, teachers have gone through more than 1.2 million trainings for continuing qualification, which are a good basis for structuring the qualification process and a good experience for pedagogical specialists in the future to choose the right programs and trainings for increasing their competences.

In 2019, when the COVID-19 pandemic was not yet there, 681 pedagogical specialists were trained at the National Center for the Advancement of the Qualification of Pedagogical Specialists, said its director Dimitar Asenov.

He added that in 2022, six times more pedagogical specialists - teachers and school principals - were trained at the center.
