The Bulgarian Red Cross sent nearly 33 tons of humanitarian aid to the victims of the catastrophic earthquake in Syria on February 6, 2023, BNT reports.

The cargo plane took off from Sofia Airport for the Lebanese capital Beirut and was carrying new clothes, shoes, hygiene materials, long-lasting food products, etc., donated by Bulgarian citizens and companies, collected under the National Campaign to help the victims of the earthquake.

In Beirut, the shipment will be unloaded by representatives of the Lebanese Red Cross and transported by humanitarian convoy to Syria.

On Syrian territory, humanitarian aid from the BRC will be taken over by the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, which has access to all affected territories and will provide aid to those in need.

To date, the Bulgarian Red Cross has provided material donations for Turkey and Syria from its disaster reserve worth nearly 310,000 euros.

The National Campaign to Aid the Earthquake Victims sent 24 tons of humanitarian aid to Syria and 224 boxes of donations to Turkey.

From the fundraising campaign, the amount transferred so far for the two affected parties is BGN 1,810,000.

The management of the BCK received a letter of thanks from the president of the Turkish Red Crescent, Dr. Kerem Kanak, in connection with the assistance provided after the catastrophic earthquake, which affected millions and was defined as one of the deadliest disasters of the 21st century.
