According to Yonhap news agency, the South Korean military claimed that North Korea tested a ballistic missile on Thursday.

The agency quoted the Joint Chiefs of Staff as saying that the ballistic missile was fired into waters off the east coast of the Korean Peninsula.

Washington and Seoul have stepped up defense cooperation amid growing military and nuclear threats from the North.

North Korea has increasingly tested provocative banned weapons in recent months.

North Korea is protesting the maneuvers,


hours before the leaders of South Korea and Japan meet in Tokyo, North Korea has made a new show of its strength.

Pyongyang's missile and nuclear programs were on the agenda for the meeting of the leaders of South Korea and Japan.

More than that, South Korea and the United States are conducting joint military exercises.

North Korea says that such maneuvers are a rehearsal of the attack.

Cruise missiles were fired on Sunday


North Korea fired two short-range ballistic missiles in a launch on Tuesday after South Korea and the United States began their biggest maneuvers in five years, according to South Korea's military.

Earlier on Sunday, Pyongyang fired two strategic cruise missiles from a submarine in apparent protest of US-South Korea military drills.

The US-South Korea military exercise, known as Freedom Shield, began on Monday and will continue for 10 days.

Allies have said that the Freedom Shield exercise focuses on the "changing security environment" due to North Korea's redoubled aggression.
