Honduran Foreign Minister Eduardo Enrique Reina claimed on the 15th that the establishment of diplomatic relations with China was due to economic needs, while Taiwan refused to increase financial assistance.

He said Honduras was overwhelmed financially and debt-strapped, and demanded that Taiwan double its annual aid of US$50 million and "rebalance" Hongguo's US$600 million debt to Taiwan, but did not receive a positive response.

"Deutsche Welle" reported yesterday citing an anonymous source that the Taiwan government had known about Honduras' intention to turn around four weeks ago, but did nothing.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified today that since Kawchu took office in January 2022, in accordance with the priorities of the Hongguo government, our country has actively continued to discuss bilateral cooperation plans with Hongguo.

Our country has stated to Hongfang several times that our country is willing to assist Hongguo in promoting construction and development within its capabilities, and has repeatedly reminded Hongguo to pay attention to China's false promises.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that there are warning signs in the relationship between the two countries, and they are still working hard to maintain the friendship so far. It is by no means that they are aware of the Hongguo government's diplomatic intentions but have done nothing. It calls on the media to do their due diligence before reporting.
