Multi-time world champion Synek Ondrej dominated the regatta for the title in the short pair.

The Cuban athlete Ángel Fournier died on March 16, 2023 due to a heart attack.

Fournier was 34 years old and was considered the best Cuban rower in history and a glory of the national sport.

Fournier stood out in the single sculls modality, in which he won three medals in World Championships: silver in Chungju 2013 and Sarasota 2017, and bronze in Amsterdam 2014. He was also a four-time Pan-American champion in Guadalajara 2011, Toronto 2015 and Lima 2019, and Olympic finalist in London 2012 and Rio 2016.
