The ammunition is produced outside Ukraine with the assistance of an unnamed NATO country, the state-owned company Ukroboronprom announced.

"The first batch of 125 mm shells for T-64, T-72 and T-80 tanks, which the Ukrainian security and defense forces use to defeat invaders, has already been delivered," the company said in Telegram.

Ukraine's drive to produce its own ammunition comes amid shortages that many of its Western allies have begun to feel in their own limited stockpiles after supplying ammunition to Ukraine for more than a year, Reuters said.

Ukroboronprom said this is the second type of ammunition it has started producing in cooperation with a NATO country.

In February, the company announced the start of joint production of 120 mm mortar shells, again with an unnamed NATO partner.
