Finnish President Sauli Niinistö commented on Prime Minister Sanna Mari's proposal to provide Ukraine with "Hornet" fighter jets.

APA reports that the Office of the President of Finland published a statement by Niinistön.

"Last Saturday, on the eve of my visit to the United States, we talked about this issue with the Prime Minister. Finland paid attention to the urgent needs of Ukraine and responded to this with the 13th aid package, which includes defense equipment," said the Finnish head of state.

The president stressed that the decisive factor for the Hornet combat aircraft is the requirements of Finland's defense: what happens after the decommissioning of the Hornets is a different topic of discussion.

It should be recalled that the Prime Minister of Finland, Sanna Marin, who was on a visit to Kyiv last week, said at a press conference that her country may consider giving Ukraine "Hornet" fighter jets.

His proposal was not received unambiguously in Finland.
