North Korea announced that it had fired two strategic cruise missiles from a submarine, Reuters reported, citing BTA.

North Korea's official KCTA news agency said the missiles were aimed at a target in the sea.

South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said the military had been put on high alert and the country's intelligence agency was working with its American partners to analyze the nature of the launch.

According to the KCTA, yesterday an exercise was conducted for the underwater launch of strategic cruise missiles.

During the exercise, the submarine "8.24 Yongung" ("8.24 Yongung") fired two strategic cruise missiles into the waters off the east coast of Korea.
