Rainy weather continues over large areas in the US state of California after the atmospheric river that caused severe flooding moved east, the Associated Press reported.

The U.S. National Weather Service warned that the approaching new storm could trigger more of the heavy flooding that has hit the area in recent days, causing levees to break and mass evacuations.

The new storm will not be accompanied by such a large amount of rain as before, but meteorologists warn of the possibility of "significant flooding" in the lower-lying areas, writes BTA.

The new flooding is expected to be caused by additional rain and overflowing creeks and streams from snowmelt.
