Chairman of the West Azerbaijan Community, Aziz Alakbarli, issued a statement.

According to the information given to APA by the community, the statement reads:

"We welcome the fact that the government of Azerbaijan has invited the representatives of the Armenian residents of the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan to a meeting to discuss the continuation of contacts related to re-integration, as well as the implementation of infrastructure projects in Karabakh. The path to peace and tranquility in the region is through dialogue, reconciliation and re-integration.

In the same way, we are waiting for the Armenian government to respond to our initiative to start negotiations on the return of Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia to their homes.

As the West Azerbaijan Community, we recently sent a letter to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, and called on the Armenian government to start a dialogue on the realization of our right to return to our homes in a safe and dignified manner.

We are waiting for a response to our letter addressed to the Armenian leadership and proposals to start negotiations.

Our platform for these negotiations is based on basic human rights, international humanitarian law and reintegration.

It is characteristic that the initiator of the dialogue on issues related to both Armenians living in Azerbaijan and Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia is the state of Azerbaijan and the West Azerbaijan Community, respectively.

We hope that the Armenian side will abandon its non-constructive approach of "ethnic reconciliation" and support steps based on noble human values such as ethnic diversity, tolerance and multiculturalism.
