The candidates for deputies to the National Assembly of the People's Power of Cuba (Parliament) for the municipality of Santa Clara, including President Miguel Díaz-Canel, today resumed the tours of places of economic and social interest in that territory, in the central Villa Clara province.

As reported by the Presidency on Twitter, the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and his seven fellow candidates visited the 110 Kv (kilovolt) Generator Set located in the Subplanta neighborhood of the capital of Villa Clara.

He added that this unit, one of the four power plants in Villa Clara, contributes 16 megawatts (MW) to the National Electric System.

"The tours of the candidates for deputies for Santa Clara will resume this Friday. During the tour, the head of state learned that with the commissioning of 11 new generator sets, the province reached 74.8 MW, the maximum power achieved by the provincial power plants, two located in Santa Clara, one in Sagua la Grande and another in the town of Calabazar.

As part of the visit, the President recognized the work of workers in this sector in the midst of the complex situation that the country is going through due to the effects of the deficit in generation capacity in thermoelectric plants.

Díaz-Canel spoke to those present about the strategy followed by the nation to increase electrical capacities.

This Friday, the candidates for deputies exchanged with workers from the non-state sector and learned about their concerns related to taxes, access to raw materials, obstacles with the bank and imports.

The nominees for the X Legislature of the Cuban Parliament will continue their tours of the municipalities where they were elected as candidates until March 24, with a view to the national elections scheduled for next Sunday, March 26.

In accordance with Law 127, Electoral Law, of the national elections process (Title VIII), the election of deputies is held every five years, on the same day throughout the national territory, on the date set by the Council of State.

In the national elections, the deputies are elected, after which (within a term of 45 days from the moment of the election) the National Assembly of People's Power is constituted, which elects its president, vice-president, secretary and other members of the Council of State, as well as the President and Vice President of the Republic.

The election of deputies is held every five years, on the same day throughout the national territory, on the date set by the Council of State.
