On March 9, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with the delegation led by the Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Huon Sudari, who was on a visit to our country.

According to the press and public relations department of the Milli Majlis, the chairman of the Milli Majlis, who greeted the guests sincerely, expressed his belief that this visit will contribute to the development of relations between our countries and parliaments.

Recalling that the delegation of the National Assembly visited our country to participate in the 10th Global Baku Forum, Sahiba Gafarova said that this forum, organized by the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, has already become an important international event where current challenges in the world are discussed among leaders.


Pointing out that the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and the Kingdom of Cambodia will be completed next year, the chairman of the Milli Majlis said that there are good opportunities for the development of bilateral relations in various fields.

Speaking about cooperation between our parliaments, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova said that mutual friendship groups operating in both parliaments play a special role in this field.

He stressed the importance of cooperation in international parliamentary organizations, especially the Non-Aligned Movement and its Parliamentary Network, as well as the ASEAN Parliamentary Assembly.

Sahiba Gafarova recalled with satisfaction her official visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia in November of last year, and thanked for the hospitality shown and support for the acceptance of Azerbaijan as an observer member of the ASEAN Parliamentary Assembly.

He pointed out that he held a number of important meetings in Cambodia within the framework of the visit and the negotiations confirmed the successful relations between our parliaments.

In accordance with the initiative of the Chairman of the Milli Majlis, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, as the chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement, to develop the parliamentary dimension of the movement, the creation of the Network, its founding meeting, the first conference held in Baku, the second conference to be held in Manama in a few days, the work done for the institutional development of the organization, the upcoming talked about tasks.

Sahiba Gafarova noted that the Parliamentary Network is an important platform for discussing a number of important issues.

At the meeting, the Chairman of the Milli Majlis informed the guests about the successful development of Azerbaijan, the new reality that emerged after the victory in the Patriotic War in 2020, and the non-constructive position of Armenia in the peace negotiations.

Expressing his gratitude to the Azerbaijani side for the cordial meeting and the invitation to the 10th Global Baku Forum, the Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Huon Sudari, recalled with pleasure the official visit of Speaker Sahiba Gafarova to Cambodia.

Speaking about inter-governmental and inter-parliamentary relations between Cambodia and Azerbaijan, Huon Sudari noted the importance of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the parliaments of the two countries within the framework of the official visit of the Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova to Cambodia last year.

Our guest parliaments shared their views on the prospects of cooperation within the framework of international organizations, mainly the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, the ASEAN Parliamentary Assembly, and noted the role of mutual friendship groups operating in the parliaments of both countries in the development of cooperation.

During the conversation, the Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia informed about the structure of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Cambodia, the current socio-economic situation in the country, and the election system.

At the meeting, opinions were exchanged on other issues of interest to the parties.
