Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis

Kyriakos Mitsotakis - Greek economist and politician. Mitsotakis was born in Athens on March 4, 1968. He spoke last night in Athens with representatives of the EU in charge of railway transport, the Greek news agency ANA-MPA reported.

On a visit to Greece were the executive director of the EU Railway Transport Agency, Josef Doppelbauer, the director responsible for land transport in the European Commission, Christian Schmidt and Elzbeta Lukaniuk, responsible for railway security in the office of the European Commissioner for Transport, Adina Valyan.

The EU representatives put forward some proposals that could be used in drawing up a plan to improve the operation and safety of the railway network in Greece, modernize the infrastructure, adopt best practices and make the most effective use of EU funding, they noted government sources.

Mitsotakis stressed that he would use the knowledge and experience of European services in the context of the fully transparent investigation into the train crash in central Greece last week, which killed 57 people and injured dozens.

Many of the 350 passengers on board the train, which collided head-on with a freight train, were students traveling from Athens to Thessaloniki.

Greece's Interim Minister of Transport, Yorgos Gerapetritis, also attended the meeting.
