[Reporter Qiu Zhirou/Report from Taipei] Today is International Women's Day. The Social and Family Affairs Department of the Ministry of Health and Welfare held a press conference on the "2023 NEXT ROUND Our Next Round" series of activities. Scholars reminded that domestic women's "three highs and three lows" problems still exist There is room for improvement; Premier Chen Chien-jen shared Taiwan's three Asian firsts, including the legalization of same-sex marriage, the proportion of female legislators, and gender equality rankings. He hopes to continue to work hard so that women can free their hands to pursue their ideals and realize themselves.

Through the publication of "Taiwanese Women's Images", the campaign pointed out the "three highs" of women: high violence rate, high contribution to housework, and high social contribution, and the "three lows": low birth rate, low education investment ratio, low employment opportunities and wages reward phenomenon.

Wu Weiting, director of the Gender Research Institute at Shih Hsin University, pointed out that although the proportion of female victims of domestic violence reports in Taiwan has dropped from 80% in 2007 to 64% in 2022, new forms of digital gender violence are increasing day by day and require active prevention and control.

In addition, housework responsibilities mostly fall on the shoulders of women, and the importance of spouses in the distribution of housework is only 24.9%, which has not changed much in the past 10 years, and women have high social contributions, with a contribution rate as high as 68.6%, but they rarely become supervisors. Mostly men.

In terms of three lows, Wu Weiting said that the proportion of male babies born in China is significantly higher than that of female babies, about 107 to 100, and the proportion of female graduates with master's and doctoral degrees is significantly lower than that of males. Taking doctoral programs as an example, the ratio of males is about twice that of females ;Because women face too many factors that are not conducive to employment, there is still a gender pay gap and gender segregation in the workplace. Observing Taiwan's female labor participation, there has been no progress from 2007 to 2002, and it is still only 51.6%.

In his speech, Chen Chien-jen said that Taiwan has gone through 20 years of gender equality step by step, and created three Asian firsts, including the first legalization of same-sex marriage in Asia, the first proportion of female legislators in Asia, and the ranking of gender equality in Asia. First, this allows the world to see Taiwan as a model for Asia. However, in terms of "three highs and three lows", Taiwan does have room for improvement.

Chen Jianren said that in recent years, the government has strengthened from various aspects. It has built a gender-based violence prevention network, expanded infertility subsidies, paternity check-up leave, and equality between men and women in childcare. Put your hands out, pursue your ideals, and realize yourself.

Zhou Zhihao, Political Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, also mentioned that regarding gender equality, although my country has passed CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women) and domestically legalized it in terms of legal system, problems such as new forms of digital sexual violence and insufficient childcare still remain. Further improvement is needed, and we hope to echo the theme of this year's "NEXT ROUND" and jointly create an equal future for the "next round"!
